Hello, I’m Grace!
I create privacy. I fix privacy problems. I enjoy listening to people like you. I help people with their privacy concerns so they can enjoy a better private life. I love love love what I do! Businesses seek opinions, strategies, and practical insights that only I can give. I’m driven by the impact that only I can have and was made to have. I leave no privacy concerns behind.
A LITTLE BACKGROUND
I’ve enjoyed presenting numerous topics on privacy for corporations, associations, business groups, colleges, universities, governments, and youth organizations worldwide. I founded The Privacy Advocate, a data privacy consulting firm. My fifteen-year career budded in the federal market, where I served as a consultant and subject-matter expert both in the US and overseas. As an award-winning consultant for the United States Secret Service, I also served numerous federal entities with acknowledged excellence, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Defense Information Security Agency (DISA), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA). Seven years of my career have been spent serving diverse markets, including Fortune 500 companies, startups, and nonprofits. I have authored articles for industry journals, functioned as an expert reviewer for US and European privacy books, and served as faculty and an advisory board member for the largest global privacy association, the International Association of Privacy Professionals. I speak regularly as a privacy subject matter expert for Startup Law 101 Series.
That’s not all.
I have been a go-to privacy advisor, coach, and instructor for many leading organizations, law firms, churches, educational institutions, religious organizations, and clergypersons who desire to improve or master privacy risk management, gain members’ trust, and achieve legal and regulatory compliance.
In addition to my experience in cybersecurity, data privacy, and technical communication, I hold industry certifications including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certification in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (European Data Protection Law & Practice), Certified Information Privacy Professional (US Corporate Privacy Law), Certified Information Privacy Professional (Government), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE).
WHAT GOT ME INTO THIS LINE OF WORK?
I’m a privacy purist. Privacy needs to be just right for a person, given their needs and circumstances. The beauty of it is that that person has control. Also, privacy improves relationships. That’s the best part!
What else got me into privacy? Was it losing my keys three times at age 7 and causing my mom to replace a lock? Was it my parents’ job? Or, was it being taken from an ATM machine into the getaway car of wanted criminals who made away with my bankcard and PIN but dropped me off (in one piece) anywhere of my choosing (except, of course, the police station)? Was it because of my job as a usability professional or an ethical hacker?
My answer is, what didn’t? Everything. Most of all, I love helping people. Privacy is about people. Empathy is definitely my superpower. My goal is to improve lives and give people and organizations the peace they deserve.
HOW CAN I BE IN YOUR CORNER?
I’ve been in data privacy for a while. I wrangle burning privacy questions and privacy issues in life, at work, for businesses, and for non-profit organizations. All things privacy. I get individuals and organizations out of privacy trouble. But I’m not perfect. I have high standards, but what you don’t see is that I also make mistakes. Those are my teachable moments. I learn from them and get better. I teach and mentor people who want a career in data privacy, those studying for privacy certifications, victims of data breaches or privacy violations, and privacy issues in all kinds of relationships. This is pretty fulfilling. I want to help you too. Imagine a better life!
